The Nintendo Switch lineup of retro video games is expanding again, this time to include a Mario side series game Mario Golf. When it arrives on the Switch platform on April 15, Mario Golf will become the fourteenth classic N64 title available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers who own the $49.99/year Expansion Pack. The first sub-title in the series, this game laid the foundation for the sequels and contributed to popularizing the franchise globally.
Switch users will be able to pick from a cast of iconic franchise characters, including Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi, and play a round of golf on unique Mario-themed courses. The new installment in the succession of Switch-enabled N64 games will offer numerous game modes, including speed golf, mini-golf, and tournaments. What is curious is that Nintendo entrusted the project involving its legacy characters to a third-party studio – Camelot Software Planning, which released a somewhat similar PS1 game, Everybody's Golf, a couple of years ago.
Nintendo has been introducing new N64 titles to its collection approximately on a more or less monthly basis now. Last month, F-Zero X joined the roster of projects, originally released on the 64-bit console, and earlier, Banjo Kazooie and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask were added to the service in January and February, respectively. Other prominent N64 titles adapted for the Switch system include Dr. Mario 64, Mario Tennis, Win Back: Covert Operations, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Star Fox 64, Paper Mario, etc.
