Instagram is rolling out a bunch of fresh messaging features to improve user experience. All the new features are already available in the latest update for iOS and Android devices. We’ve already updated the app and we’re ready to introduce you to the new features.
After the latest update, you can quickly reply to messages without the need to open the Direct inbox tab. The messages are now displayed right in the main feed and support quick replies. Next, you can tap and hold posts in your feed to quickly send them to your contacts, while the new Direct indicators conveniently highlight all the users who are online at the moment.
Message thread customization options have been expanded as well. Now you can:
Start polls in group chats;
Send silent messages that won’t notify the receivers (the same feature appeared in Facebook Messanger recently too);
Choose from a set of new chat background themes, including an awesome lo-fi theme.
You will also be happy to know that Instagram partnered with Apple Music and Amazon Music to let you share 30-second song previews with friends, who can listen to the tracks without leaving the chat. Meta promised to add Spotify support later on too.
All the listed features are part of Meta’s efforts to improve the communication experience on Instagram and make it more competitive with popular messaging apps. According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, messaging improvement will be one of the main priorities of the company throughout 2022.
The latest update is currently available only in several select countries, but we expect it to come out globally within a few weeks. Besides, the company will improve controls to make the app more transparent. How do you like the new messaging features? What else would you like Instagram to add this year?
